Japanese Whitefriars?
« on: January 06, 2012, 04:31:29 PM »
Obviously not.

I've looked in all my usual places to try to ID this 'Whitefriars wannabe' but haven't seen an exact match yet.

It's a fantastic shade of tangerine-orange, hexagonal shape, 7" tall.

It's only junk but some info for it would be nice.

There's some useful info on these contained in the below link. No definitive confirmation, although possibly Japanese in origin....

I've seen the Davidson ones before. Mine is slightly better in weight and feel - but still not great!

The blue Japanese (?) one in the forum linked above certainly looks like mine (shape, pattern, thickness) but there is one aspect where there is a big difference. The blue one has a kind of inverted arch giving a nice profile to the sommerso effect. Mine is more like the Davidson one in that it is pretty flat suggesting to me at least a kind of cheapness. Was there any consistency on this matter?

I would suspect there was just no consistency with the casing on these. Here are a couple of others in the links below for comparison purposes...

A pic of the base may also help for comparative purposes...

Casing thicknesses and profiles can very quite a lot from one item to another.

With respect, somebody asking £30 is not the same as somebody paying £30

True, but he's looking for one.  Those vases are pretty poor quality in my view.
