Topic: large amber jug

Hello again

I have just picked up this very large amber jug.  It must be about 5lbs and the measurements are 20cm high and 15cm diameter.  It is clear glass at the base which extends as far up as the base of the handle.  The handle is hollow and part of the body and has an indented ridge the entire inner circumference which is a near perfect circle.  The top edge is very nicely finished, smooth and with a slightly beveled inner edge. Looking straight at the side, it doesn't "sit back" as much as the photos show.

Thank you so much in advance.  There is a bit of a shortage of nice glass where I live at the moment but I still hope someone can help here.

hello poppy   -  regret to say, but most water jugs seem to go unattributed  -  most are of utility value only and unmarked, so difficult to say which factory.    A few older and better known pieces are well documented, for example W/Fs, and a lot of the cut examples have backstamps which makes provenance easier.
I'm having trouble seeing the clear casing of which you speak, and it looks as though the base is ground/polished flat, although you don't comment - am I correct?     If you've already said I apologise for foregetting, but where are you based? -  and sorry you have a lack of good glass.
Bottom line is that unless someone can recognize this from a catalogue picture, you may be a long time waiting to know the maker.
However, it's a nice large and unusual piece, worth keeping certainly

I know what you mean about jugs and the difficulty in attribution.  The base is polished flat and is glossy apart from the usual wear.  I am in San Francisco and have a good collection of European glass that I find in charity shops here.  I'm from England and have been collecting glass for a few years in Europe (which I don't have anymore) and here.   I don't touch American stuff unless it's Blenko and have quite a lot of Czech, Scandinavian and Italian.

Hi Poppy, to save Paul forgetting if he's asked (cos at his age he does forget! ) could you add your general location to your profile please? It always helps if we know where you are in the first place, as some glass doesn't travel far (although other stuff seems to overdose on Air Miles!)
