just found the pic. of the bowl  -  it's in Hajdamach (C20 British Glass) page 185  -  presumably all examples made in bottle brown glass.
Apologies for all this waffle Anne - and bearing in mind this is almost certainly all 'British', might suggest you throw the whole thing over into that category.    thanks.

OK,  I concede....that lot was worth a trip to Arundel.....for certain!

Bordon....A3, throught the new tunnel,  off at Grayshott and 5 mins drive.....simples!!

Coffee always served hot on the Pearce Café 'twixt Grayshott and Bordon.

Must be worth the trip before the 'summer seething masses' hit the road to the Olympics!!??

according to Thompson, the biscuit jar is Sowerby - first registered in 1874 (the pic. is on page 59).

the GMB will descend on the Pearce cafe en masse, if we can all get together on the same day ;D

I shall stay miles away from the Olympics, sorry to be a killjoy, but heaving sweaty masses blocking up the roads are not my scene  -  although I dare say they would say the same of glass ;)

Just occured to me...............sincerely hope that having divulged my favourite haunts for collecting, that I don't now see GMB members lurking in Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Kent or south London.   These really are my territories, and it just wouldn't be cricket if future lean pickings were the result of people taking advantage of my giving out details of these hot spots.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D

trust you had a great day though Keith  -  it's the fun of rummaging through boxes, and the hope of finding good things, unexpectedly, that makes for excitement.   Hope you enjoy the May event :)

I am so envious of all the fairs you guys have down south.  Are they mostly outdoor?  Maybe I'm wrong (I'm sure Sue will know) but we just don't have regular fairs like that up here.  Possibly the weather is a factor, but it rains in England too doesn't it?  I would just LOVE to browse around one of those places - you all seem to find something worth dipping into your pockets for.  Charity shops are OK, fine in fact, but there's no real buzz about them that I expect you get at a fair.  Sigh *

evening Nancy..........well, actually no, apparently it doesn't seem to rain in the south of England any more :)  -  as you've probably seen on the box most if not all of the south east has drought conditions and there is a hosepipe ban - but a deluge of rain should really take precedence over boot sales, no matter how much I'd probably moan.       It's true, there are some major fairs south of Watford ;), although possibly what makes more of a difference are the very large and munificent outdoor boot sales, which provide a good selection of antique bric-a-brac and house clearance material.      Do visit us Sassenachs, and you can stay in my large shed, and we can visit some good boot sales.... :)
On the other hand, I've enjoyed the beauty of Talisker Bay, climbed to the top of Schiehallion, and experienced the isolation of Rannock Moor......none of which can be done in Surrey, so no one gets all the goodies.

Sorry you can't make Brum in May Keith, I'm going this time, and you could have bought me a drink ;)     Won't change your mind?

Apologies this is getting a little of course, so better stop this thread here.

There are a couple of static antique centres in Scotland - no fairs at all. Boots and flea markets are also very thin on the ground.

I know Rannoch Moor, Paul, and I've climbed Shiehallion myself, but I don't know where Rannock comes in - are you getting muddled with bannock?
We had hailstorms yesterday.
