Jade glass vase, not Davidson, but who?
« on: May 01, 2012, 11:43:56 AM »
I recently bought this gorgeous jade vase to add to my collection. I have been trying to find its maker and today found an identical one attributed to Davidson on an Auction Website. Is this correct ? If so can anyone tell me the pattern number / name ?  Thanks.

I've look through the Stewart's book, and their web site, without seeing this particular pattern  -  although doubtless there are many designs not shown.    If you don't get a conclusive answer here, you might try contacting Val and Chris Stewart on ...  info - at - cloudglass.com..  closing the gaps and using the real rats tail.   The colour of Jade can vary a lot, and this type of green glass was made by other factories from the 1920's - although Davidson's was produced for 3/4 years only in the early 1930's.        The few pieces of Davidson jade that I have, and those images on line, seem to show more of a geometric design rather than what appears to be a stylized petal.     Unfortunately, it seems that Chris Stewart no longer visits us here (unless I've missed him). :)

It doesn't look like a Davidson design I've seen either. Does it glow bright green under UV? If so, it's not Davidson

the British company Jobling - produced a green which they also called 'Jade' (at about the same time - 1930's -  as Davidson were marketing the same trade name)  -  and as Lustrousstone has said, the Davidson product does not fluoresce but the Jobling one does.     The Jobling 'Jade' looks a brighter, more apple sort of green  -  a well known example being the three handled salad bowl which was produced in at least two sizes, and is shown in the catalogues as sitting on a black plinth.
I wonder if this one might be from the States somewhere  -  was it sourced from within the U.K. Simba?

I bought it on ebay from a uk seller. I have emailed the Stewart's and also the auction site to ask where they got their reference from. It's not like the Jobling green its a much softer colour

unfortunately not.............but if you try the search facility on the Board I seem to recall Ivo mentioning a Continental manufacturer some while back, I think, and you might pick up other ideas at the same time.                  Perhaps the Mods. can tweak the subject heading to attract the States collectors  -  always possibly they might have some suggestions.
If you look at the known Davidson pieces, you'll see the general idea of the sort of design/style that most of those follow.           Quite simple and without any flowery surface decoration.           Do you have any definite pieces of Davidson Jade?
However, you have a nice piece of (someone's) jade, and you always have something to do on a cold winter's evening i.e. searching for the maker ;)  -  what if any is the extent of wear on the underside of the foot?
