Victorian Vase with Applied Snake Kralik? Loetz?
« on: September 09, 2013, 01:57:44 AM »
Good Morning,

I have recently acquired this vase that someone suggested might be Kralik but I cannot find anything quite like it online. It is 8 inches high and is only very slightly iridescent. I am hoping someone recognises it and can help with the maker.

many thanks in advance

Can we see a photo of the base showing the textured pattern clearly, that would be useful.

Here is a photo of the base, it has a rough pontil mark in the centre. The vase has been tentatively identified as Rindskopf, one very similar was shown here http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/42450-rindskopf-pink-martele-serpent-vase

cheers

PS the small inclusion in the base is a tiny stone I haven't attempted to dislodge at this point

The shape is very much like a pair of Kralik martele vases I have...

Thank you for your input. Those vases are definitely a similar shape. Did you look at the link in my last post?

However the consensus seems to be that Kralik didn't use applied snakes, only Loetz and Rindskopf did. Kralik did use applied trailing (?) but not snakes. Are you familiar with this? This has a definite head with 2 eyes. I know nothing about this sort of glass, so am just repeating what others are telling me :-)

cheers

I would attribute this piece to Rindskopf. It is correct that Kralik is not really known for this type of snake work.
I would also add that this is not really indicative of any Loetz production I am familiar with.

The small stone is likely ash trapped in the glass. I would leave it alone.

Hope this helps...

I have a vase with an applied snake that I've been trying to identify.
Out of curiosity is it possible to have a side on clear profile shot of the foot of your vase please - I'm wondering if it narrows in towards the base or has a shallow 'foot' after the flared bottom and before the base iyswim?
Keith is it possible to have a side on view of one of your vases as well please if you have time?
I'll post mine separately once I find the camera.
thanks so much.
