lidded colourful glass box
« on: January 25, 2014, 12:15:42 PM »
Hi all, this 9cm high piece is matt ranging in colour from orange to pink and has some good wear to the base, the inside is a pink colour with black numbers on the base and inside the lid,the numbers are not the same but the lid and body look an exact match. The black line decoration is raised and over all it's got something about it,that could just be me though ::)Any ideas on this one ,many thanks

Wow! 1930's Bohemian one would have to suspect - looks like some complex processes have been used to create this - I'd love to see the rest of the set, if it is part of a dressing table set that is. Sorry I can't help further...

this may well come under the heading of 'tango' glass  -  Czechoslovakian (or Bohemian if you want)  -  and I'd agree with the suggestion of c. 1930.
If you put tango into the Board's search you may well find some more information that might help :)

I think its mould blown with a pink underlay cased in clear glass and then the clear glass has been enamelled in orange with black stripes.  It looks as though the orange has been quite significantly damaged?  or is it just the way the pics appear?

I don't know if this would be classed as 'classic' tango glass, as that is 'usually' two colours of solid coloured glass rather than the colours being achieved with enamelling (although I could be wrong on this i.e. what defines 'classic' tango glass).

I'm with you on this not being Tango.  :)

Thanks for the replies,to my untrained eye it seems to have a clear glass body with a thin pink lining on the inside and then a very thin layer of orange and the black lines in relief,i thought the orange may have been slightly sanded off for decoration because it does work aesthetically and the black is undamaged, but i don't really know enough about it to say.

Your pictures are not clear enough to see any detail I'm afraid :)
However just looking at the sides of the box where the lid joins the box, it looks damaged to me.  Can we see clearer pictures please?
thank you

The lid joins the body just above the black line a 1/3rd down the body and there are no chips or obvious damage,i'll take some more detailed photos when i've got the light. :)

It just look as though the inner colour or enamelling is damaged, not that there are chips, but that is probably the decoration then and the pics :)  New bright pics close up would be helpful.
