Small green bowl.
« on: April 09, 2014, 02:30:01 PM »
Hi again this is a sweet little bowl,10cm wd,with a bulge in the base mold blown an polished pontil, seems to be made with alot of care for such a small thing,it only rests on the very outer part of the foot ring and there is wear,it has a sort of high pitched brittle ring, any thoughts many thanks.

I'm tempted to suggest this is Stuart  -  the large polished pontil depression and the colour would fit, but not sure about the 'bulge'.

I take it there aren't any marks etc.

As you'll know, output from Stuart was prodigious although most people concentrate on the better known patterns/designs, and I dare say this is the sort of piece that wouldn't get a second look - especially being without a backstamp or Rd. No.
Very unlikely you are going to find any catalogues covering this sort of glass - for some cut designs yes - but not for this.
You can occasionally find this colour (the darker of the two greens) with a backstamp and/or Rd. No. - and as far as I'm aware Stuart never did produce a uranium green, so no point in digging out the torch.

Attached is a similar shaped known Stuart bowl with a wavy rim, and the typical Stuart large polished pontil depression, which carries Rd. No. 659164 (but not the factory backstamp) - first Registered on 16th January 1917.
It's possible yours might have been made around that time, and therefore would almost certainly not have carried a factory backstamp, but like most of these things I dare say they were in production for some period of time (think of the lifespan of Woodchester and Stratford Rings) - so likely yours was made later.
I suspect that this Stuart Registration covers all bowls with wavy rims, so it's very probable that your example would also be classified under the Board of Trade Rd. 659164 - but just simply missed being backstamped. :)

obviously not concentrating..........it's not the darker green, so assuming it is Stuart then it'll be like the attached lighter shade.

Thanks Paul ,here we go on photo colours again :),it's not the bright Stuart green in the last one,i have a few bits and its got that browny olive green colour,my original photo looking at it doesn't convey just how thin the bowl is although the foot is quite sturdy in comparison, the other thing you can't see in the photo is the numerous mold lines between the foot and the wavy rim.
