Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the origin of this piece.  I am thinking French or Bohemian?  Many thanks

(sorry, it's the word we use for "diaper" here in the uk. Conjures up very smelly and disgusting images.)

it's an american "thing" I believe

Apologies for being so off topic, dinklepip, and for not being more helpful with an attribution.
It does seem to have similar sort of design on it as the pressed patterns on Jeanette or Atlas glass, but this isn't my sort of area at all, and this is gilded.

Is the glass raised under the gilding, or is it all painted on a flat surface?

It looks like a gilded needle/plate etch, which probably puts in in the US camp

Its Cambridge Rosepoint which is an acid etch & its GE (gold encrusted) & I believe its the 3600 series 6" handled nappy.
