I still think it was in Hamburg. That 'iv' means perhaps 4th exhibition.

The Hamburgischer Künstlerclub hold exhibitions. He was founded in the 'Cafe Felber' 1897 located on the exhibition ground of the 'Gartenbauausstellung 1897' in Hamburg.
Here is a link http://www.ebay.de/itm/schone-Lithographie-Hamburg-Gartenbau-Ausstellung-1897-Gesamtansicht-1897-/311173877730?pt=Ansichtskarte_Zubehör&hash=item4873688fe2

I am sure the house on the glass was located on that ground. The Künstlerclub also hold yearly exhibitions in the 'Galerie Kommeter/Commeter http://www.commeter.de/ceemes/ which still exists.

So far.

Perhaps :) we will have to agree to differ.
I think the thin vertical poles rising from the turrets are matched in the Graces' link picture I gave as well as the depiction of the building.  Also the horizontal lines of the brickwork are depicted well in the engraving.
I am not sure whether the artist will have had a final building to work from in terms of depicting the picture.  I think this building was built for the 1888 exhibition, so is it possible that the engraver was working from an architects drawing maybe, so didn't have the full picture of the building to see?

edited to add - Pete please can you add a clear picture of the engraved words and also a picture of each side of the glass?  thanks
m

Best I can do for Pictures. The make up of the building is very similar to the Graces picture. The number of turrets, arched windows etc seem to be in the right place. I know next to nothing on architecture so cant say more than the styles of the buildings are the same.  ??? ??? Hope the pictures help.

which as far as I know does mean as Exhibition in Hamburg.
Option 1 - Which would back up Drinkwater's posts that it relates to an exhibition in Hamburg.
So I wonder if a 'mini' size building (pavilion?) was made later on for the Hamburg exhibition (exposition?) to replicate in some way, the Glasgow building.

Option 2 - However, the depiction is very similar to the Grace's picture of the Glasgow exhibition building.

Option 3 - perhaps it really is just a very similar building and nothing to do with the Glasgow exhibition 1888 or it's building.

Did they build these places for the Exhibitions? Are they still Standing? I would have thought that with the wording it would be a building in Hamburg?? I couldn't find anything to date exhibitions in Hamburg. I have heard of these exhibitions before like one held in London 1851. I have tried following that link but not one held in Hamburg. ??? It just brings up more questions than answers. I will look into the links provided and see where that goes. Thanks
