Topic: Who could have made this?

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me identify this vase and maker. The vase is 8" tall and over a kilo in weight, I feel it should be a good maker but am a total novice so please be gentle!  I hope the link to the pictures works as I've been unable to upload the pics direct as they are too large and I have no idea how to make them smaller

hello - welcome to the GMB

sorry - can't help remotely with id/attribution, but................
occurs to me to wonder if the type of vegetation (if we knew what it is) could give some sort of clue as to origin.

The style of decoration looks to be imitating acid cut back  -  i.e. where the pattern in relief appears shiny, and the frosted background appears lower  -  however, it's possible this example has been made in a mould.           In much older pieces, the non-patterned areas of the glass would have had prolonged exposure to acid to create the reduced height of the frosted area.

hope someone is able to help you, but in the meantime if possible please post a picture of the underside of the base  -  this can sometimes provide information about the method of manufacture  -  for example it may help to indicate age by the presence, or otherwise, of wear.

As to the "vegetation", it looks very, very, very like a cat which originally featured on a Lautrec poster to me.

Maybe I'm just slightly baised towards cats, Paul?

well, cats are cosmopolitan as we know, and may not be very truthful about their origins - I was referring to the flora rather than the fauna.

I will try to get some pics up of the base and one in natural light as the colour is lighter in reality. I'm struggling to get the photos below the 125KB limit!

The flora may well hold the clue to the origin, the fauna reminded me of the Louis Wain cats although perhaps Lautrecs' may have been less manic in their looks!

I hadn't thought of Louis Wain, there was something smug and evil about the grin that took me straight to Lautrec. Wain is more naughty than evil. I do love his work. >^oo^<.

I'm not too sure about your flora - could it be wisteria?
