Purple vase/bottle - Scandinavian?
« on: August 19, 2016, 01:51:14 PM »
Strange looking vase which I initially though could be Gullaskruf due to inverted base
But my searches have come up short?
Any ideas what it could possibly be..
Measures 8.5" in height
Any thoughts are welcome

It is a hyacinth vase, very nice example too. Perhaps a date circa 1840 which would make it Georgian.

Hello again John, you seem to be spot on where I was way off.
Thanks Ben

stunning colour Ben - John will think me being picky, but I' suggest we are really obliged to say early Victorian if it's c. 1840. ;)          My opinion would be that this should have considerable wear if it was that sort of age, although to me the base looks very free from wear.

I'm looking on the net and people describe the colour differently.
Is it purple or amethyst?

Amethyst is violet or purple.
Purple is a colour intermediate between red and blue.

Google search: pantone purple
Google search: pantone amethyst

And then choose from the many variations of shade / intensity.

That's a particularly purple, purple, often hyacinth vases veer towards aubergine

this one I showed to Patricia some time back, and she suggested it was c. 1840 - 1850  - I've always thought of it as purple, and in comparison with Ben's glass his looks to be more violet/amethyst possibly.              Regret my opinion is still that Ben's bulb vase (if that is what it is) is C20 rather than C19.

No Ben's hyacinth vase is definitely early/mid 19th C, sorry Paul
