Identifying vase - Scottish Glass? Monart? Caithness?
« on: September 12, 2016, 01:26:28 AM »
I found a few Monart vases on the Ysart Glass website that were similar in shape and design to the one in the photograph. This one has a somewhat smooth pontil mark, with initials mark that's difficult to decifer.

Would appreciate any information that may help to identify glass company that made vase. 9" H x 7" at widest point.

Carole

It does look a bit Caithnessy, it would have a flat polished rim if it is. It's hard to tell with the vegetation there.  ;)
Hello Carole and welcome.  :)

not that I've a clue really, but if it was Caithness, then just possibly it has some colourway similarities to Colin Terris' Cadenza range (from the 1980s), perhaps ?? :)

I think Carole's picture is good  -  a lot better than some of the busy backgrounds we see.

Hard to tell what the logo mark on this one is, but it looks like CG. Tried to get it raised a bit in the photo.

Hello Carole and Welcome to the GMB,

I am certain that it is not Monart, Vasart or Strathearn, and I don't believe it is Caithness either.

The thinkness of the glass; the pink inner, the colouring and the pontil finish suggest art glass by an individual make - so maybe closer to home in the USA?

Kind wishes, Nigel

Thanks for taking the time to review the pics and for your suggestion to research art glass made in the United States. Will do.

Best,

Carole

It looks like a heat finished rim and the base is completely wrong for Caithness, so no joy there.
I'd agree with Nigel - you should be looking more for a studio artist, closer to home.

Thanks for your response. Wanted to share further thoughts about this vase. Went back to my initial search online. I found an abundance of information at these sites. Also attached some individual pics.
[Mod: Pics removed in line with Board guidelines on use of copyright material - The pics were for shapes DI, GL, JA and RH (Variant) for which the first three are found in: http://www.ysartglass.com/Moncat/ShapeVase01.htm and the last in: http://www.ysartglass.com/Moncat/Page09vary.htm]

http://www.ysartglass.com/index.htm,
http://www.ysartglass.com/Vascat/VasV001.htm,
vases by shape page: http://www.ysartglass.com/Moncat/ShapeVase01.htm

The thickness of the walls of the vases are very similar to mine, the coloring inside varies and several have a greyish pinkish purple hue.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Then I'm back online to research further in USA, etc.

Again, thanks for the discussion. Very enlightening.

Best,

Carole
