pink and blue speckled glass cased vase thought's please.
« on: December 19, 2016, 09:14:05 PM »
I think this one might have some age, it looks blurred and i thought it was pottery to start off with.

Any thought's welcome.

6 inches in height.

Regards Chris.

It's full of clear air bubble and you can see here the colour is on the outside and the white on the inside, the second one ive got recently that looks like pottery here is the other one.

Chris they are two completely different pieces.
You need to start a thread for the amber piece separately imo.

I hate pink and blue together so would never 'notice' pieces in this decor but I'm sure many makers (from various countries) did white cased glass to be honest.

Does it have a polished pontil mark?
Is it a large polished pontil mark or a normal sized one?

I think this purple and pink mottled vase is a piece of 30's Monart, there is a similar vase but different shape in Glass Between the wars page 42, described as "Mottled  pink and blue enamels over milky white lining, crystal cased."

On the Ysart web site it does say that no Monart has a base finish like mine though in figure 5.

looking at that item in Roger Dodsworth's BGbtws, and another of different shape but same colourway which came up for sale in Lot One of the Michael Parkington Collection, there is a noticeable overall difference in the appearance of colour between those two and the one here.         The two known Monart examples show an effect that looks like the pink blending towards blue, with a more subtle merging and mixing of the two colours, not the separate colour flake appearance as appears on Chris' piece.              That's not to say this one isn't Monart - since I know less than nothing about Scottish glass -  but just to comment that the appearance is very different.
The inner white looks to be o.k., and for all I know this inverted baluster shape may well be something that Monart did.

Back in 1997, Christie's catalogued Michael Parkington's example (the colour part of the description) as  "milky body overlaid in speckled pink graduating to blue, cased in clear ......."

My thoughts are that Frank Andrews or Garry would be the guys to know best on this one.

If it's Monart, I'll start chewing on my hats.  ;D

The whole body colour and the way it's laid on does not look dissimilar to the upper neck part of the one in the BGBTW book.
I'm not entirely sure about the colour blue, whether it is the same or not.
But otherwise, the way the colour graduates from pink to blue on the one in the book is completely different imho.

Did Monart make this shape?

Have you check out CH British Glass 20th century?
Wondering if it might be something from Dial Art  - Plowden and Thompson?
in fact think that might be more likely for your vase looking at those in the book pp101

Chris what does the base look like, is there a pontil mark ? m suggested 'Dial Art' the piece I have has a moulded base and little wear compared to yours.
