Reply to 'Flying-Free'. I have a contact who is a true expert on Stevens & Williams and who has copies of the pattern books. I am confident I can rely on his word on this. I appreciate contributions to the forum. Thank you for your help and suggestions. I don't feel I am much further at this point. The Stuart star cutting is different. Any early Stuart pieces I have handled have all been heavy. I have not seen a Stuart piece with blaze cutting from the edge. As for Whitefriars, I cannot find a Powell example similar to this in any of the books I have looked through, including the patterns, and it has a 'sharp' unpolished pontil to the centre which is, as far as I am aware, uncharacteristic of Whitefriars. The Theresianthal suggestions are promising but not yet convincing.
