Hi y'all,

I'd be grateful for any help in identifying this fascinating vase. I'm actually writing this post for a second time, as the first one got lost, and it's by way of describing the vase the first time that I came to the conclusion that it is indeed quite fascinating.
It is almost 21cm tall and weighs almost 1,5 kg; its walls are quite thick (1cm) and very smooth. The bottom is actually the only part of this vase that is not completely smooth: it's got a ring of what looks like burst bubbles, and in the middle of the ring there is another small, smooth area which seems etched - even though you can't really feel the etching (I don't know if this explanation makes sense). In the middle of the small smooth area is an etching of the letter "K"; and in the upper part of the "K", there is another etching, like a mirrored "c" or the upper part of the letter "p".
The orange strippes seem to be in the transparent glass (not painted on it, or some such), same as the bubbles which you can see, and the smoked quartz part starts very, very gradually - so now I'm wondering how the maker got to do that ???

Anyways, any help as to the provenance would be greatly appreciated :-*
I also apologise in advance that I'll be posting some more identification requests: I plan on parting with some part of my glass hoard at some point in the near future :) :-[

And this is what the etching looks like, but you know, with more straight and angular line :)

Please, do not apologise for posting identification requests.  ;D
That's why we're here.  8)
We only ask that you don't post more than 4 queries a day, because that means the first page does not get all dominated by one person's questions and all the others vanish over the page and get missed.

Well, generally, I suppose you might also do other things apart from identifying glass treasure ;)
I don't have that many items that need identification - I'm mostly interested in Czech glass and right now I'd only buy Rhapsody (that is if i got any on the cheap) - but there were times in the past when I was in the throws of quiet madness and bid on/won a number of glass lots from ebay just because of one vase or some such that I'd liked :-[
Dragon's sickness, I tell ya  ;D

Well, it's got nothing to do with the original topic of my post - any ideas on that one, anyone? - but so long as we're on the topic of hoards  :-[ ::) ;D:

Large collections, or "hoardes" if you prefer, have been well discussed withing the Board - but I can't recall what the thread titles may have been, so I can't link directly to them.

But I can say that from my own point of view (literally, within any room in my small dwelling) I can see far too many glass objects, all over the place and tucked away in cupboards and wardrobe shelves, and also between the computer keyboard and the screen. I still have enough space left on the floor to be able to walk from one room to another ... but it's getting tight.

However, I have now added to the "wibble" and hijacking of this thread, and since I won't moderate myself on this occasion, I will wait for Anne to to do so ...  8)

Hah! Give me the dirty jobs eh? :P

Hoards are welcome here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,47899.0.html

Going back to Niya's original query above, the mark looks like PK - we've had several PK marks that we have been pondering over for more years than I can remember, but we have no idea who made any of them.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Hmmm. Thanks Anne. I forgot about the 25 + 44 + 42 + 30 pages of threads that shows that most of us here buy far too many bits of glass. ;D

Guilty as charged.

The vase looks a little like the work of George Elliot and I wondered if the mark could be his anchor mark but it just does not match, several Elliot examples with anchors in this thread: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=58619.0

Which all amounts to more wibble and leaves us no nearer to identifying the vase.  :-[
