taking these at face value Roy, my opinion might be that the body is Indian Club and date wise c. 1790 - 1800, or perhaps a tad later  -  this was a body shape that started c. 1765, but seems to have ticked on for quite some time.         Unsure about the stopper  -  it's obviously heading in the direction of a spire, but it's a tad unconventional for a spire - bit thick around the middle  -  presumably a lot of wear on the stub - they appear very whiteish?       The wide shallow pontil depression is suitably Georgian.

Of course, not having them in the hand does hamper a real examination, but the above are my thoughts based on these actually being what they appear to be.               What sort of colour would you say  -  and what did you buy them as  -  and is there any damage to the relief diamonds?

Thanks Paul for your reply.

I bought them from an antique center in Dorking about 3 years ago because my wife liked them. I cannot remember what they were described as.

I just spoke to Carol about what age she thought they were before saying what your thought and she said 1790/1800.

I have added some pictures of the end of the stopper which are whiteish and look unpolished as does the inside of the neck on the bottle.
Colour I would say was a slight tinge of grey and Carol said no colour drop.
Very slight damage to the diamonds ,although they ware quite smooth rather than being sharpe.

Thanks Roy

yes, I know the antiques shops in Dorking well - I can't afford to frequent them now that I'm retired  -  for me it's the charity shops instead. ;)

Some of these body shapes did start earlier than the date spread we've mentioned, but looking at the pontil depression, I think we're about right, again, always assuming these are period manufacture, which I feel these are.              The stopper shape etc. is unusual, do they fit as they should for originals or is there any movement?    and presume there's an absence of matching Nos.

Time you bought Andy McConnell's?  :)

I think the stoppers are right, they both fit perfectly in there own bottle.
They both fit very well with no wobble or movement.

The only thing I would say is with one when stopper is twisted it tight enough to lift bottle, the 2nd one although no movement the stopper when twisted will not.
So not 100% sure but would find it hard to find a better pair of fitting stoppers.

Roy
