Small carafe with poppy seed flower
« on: March 07, 2020, 03:22:27 PM »
Hello All Glass Lovers!
Some time ago I was this carafe in Warsaw.
Great but I have no idea what it could be? Condition is great. I found the number 16 hand written at the base of cap and base of main part. Maybe You could suggest? Much thanks!

Hi Aleksander and welcome to the board.

I can't help with identifying your carafe / decanter but possibly others can help.  What I can tell you is the the numbers on the stopper and base are what we call tie numbers, they ensure that the correct stopper is fitted to the decanter, each stopper/decanter set will have its own matching pair of numbers.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Hi Aleksander - welcome from me too.               Love the shape and enamel painting - bright and cheerful.

Certainly not made in the U.K.  -  that figure '1' is so Continental, though where it was made I've no idea, but 'Bohemian or French might be possibilities  -  unfortunately, I don't think you are ever going to find out who the maker was  -  I'd also suggest that in view of the stopper then this is a decanter rather than a carafe.
The other name for Anne's tie Nos.  - at least in the U.K. - is 'matching Nos.', and as for age my own suggestion would be somewhere in the first quarter of the C20  -  1900  to  1930 - possibly a little earlier ……………  but that's only my opinion, and others might know better. :)

That was my idea as well. However there is not much space for numbers I think?
