« on: January 16, 2024, 05:38:51 PM »
I assume this is a sugar bowl from Greener & Co. with the RdNo. 96776 which dates 21/4/1888. Height 3.25" diameter 6".

Handled baskets or creamers are more common, never seen a bowl before.

Mike, there is a reference to a sugar bowl in a previous post, but no other information.

Hi Nev, rd 96776 is actually for a Greener and Co handle used on their baskets, the pattern reg for your sugar is Greener and Co rd95935 16/3/88 it’s shown in Jenny Thompson book identification of Victorian pressed glass.
What makes the Greener registrations interesting is that they used different registered designs for their  handles on their handled baskets from around 1885 so a basket could have had two registered designs one for the handle one for the bowl pattern.
The earlier handled baskets in the 1870’s just had one registration. Mike

Mike, I've had a look and Jenny Thompson actually gives the handle number as 96775, my bowl carries the number 96776. Also it is a different pattern to the 95935 which has three diamonds and three half-diamonds and extra patterning. Mine has three diamonds and a row of "arrowheads".

Oops sorry Nev, I should have looked at the book before commenting yes the handle is 96775. I have some handled baskets which I just checked have two embossed rd numbers 96775 and 95935 plus have the handle of 96775.

Both these baskets have two rd numbers embossed rd 96776 on one side and rd 95935 on the other plus have the handle of rd 96775.
The larger basket also looks like it has part of *98551 ( Japanese influence) J Thompson page 15 * within but I cannot see that number on it.
So 3 reg numbers for the smaller one. No wonder I get confused. You could argue that the larger basket is influenced by four reg numbers.
Thanks Mike
