I am still no closer to finding out more about this particular piece.  It is very beautiful and  surely there should be a duplicate somewhere out there.  A lot of work has gone into this wonderful piece and surely someone should be able to identify and provide possible leads?  I have tried various sites as suggest to no avail.

I have seen very similar pieces to this for sale on Ebay in Oz. Described as Murano in the header,  and new in the description.  I am sure I have seen identical ones to this, but can't find one listed just now.  There is a company called Castellani which sells similar pieces, also new, described as Murano style, all hand blown , but doesn't say where, so possibly is China. I know they also sell in the UK. look at this one currently for sale on ebay uk item 140367830761    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CASTELLANI-GLASS-WARE-MURANO-ART-RETRO-CRYSTAL-HVY-VASE_W0QQitemZ140367830761QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Decorative_Accents_LE?hash=item20ae931ee9

Still a lovely item though - Jak , West Oz

As requested earlier by another member, an image of the underside is always helpful in a post if you would like the best chance of having an object identified....

Hi! Jak,  I have looked at the site provided and I do see what you mean.  There is a possibility than my particular vase was made in China, however, until I find one the same I will still keep looking.  Surely there would not make only one, they must be duplicate somewhere?

I do not know who it is, but the polished base with what appears to be a reasonable amount of age wear would lead me away from the orient....

I have looked at various sites suggested and similar vases.  None of them have the spiral effect cane.  The vase weighs 4.5kg.  This is very heavy and I just cant find one similar, especially paying attention to the style and detail.  I have tried various sites to no avail.  It should be noted that I have include additional pics. as per request. I have a bad habit of picking something that I am unable to trace it's origin.   Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Hi Otis,
you find some lovely glass, ive got some that ive been trying to identify for years, then , one day ,
you get lucky and find out!
This one is a stunning piece, my thought was China, but as Craig says, the polished base and possible
age wear looks like it maybe somewhere else.
Can i ask, did you buy it at a charity shop? an antiques market, or another kind of shop?
Also, the scratches on the base, i cannot be sure from the photo, it may be possible they have
been 'added' ? They may not be random enough.
Its hard to tell without actually handling the item .
It does look familiar, i will keep looking to see if i can think of anything else,
Cheers
Andy

That spiralling cane always sends me looking in the direction of Beranek first.

:o :o Sue you'll get into trouble, Beranek, Skrdlovice Czech republic!

Although , Eastern europe , i think , maybe a Polish company , is a possibility.

ps, i dont get the feeling its a Beranek piece (dont know why ::))
