English or Scandi "Ice" Textured Tumblers
« on: August 12, 2010, 02:26:27 AM »
Hi folks!

I bought a set of barware, thinking they were either English or Scandinavian (I know, big category).  Similar to Caithness Whitefriars only in that they are textured like ice - but NOT Caithness Whitefriars, at least not their "Glacier" range.

Does anyone recognize these whiskey tumblers?

Many thanks!

Kelli

If they are particularly heavy for their size I would look at Whitefriars (attached photo of one of mine) but I think that from the photos they are Scandinavian - Finnish keeps coming to mind.

Ross, I typed Caithness up in my original post when I meant Whitefriars Glacier. I tend to think you and Carolyn are right - these aren't overly heavy, and are quite different from the Whitefriars design-wise.

Mod:  text in original post corrected for you

We've been using these for years and I was quite surprised to find out some time ago they are actually Jeffrey Baxter whisky tumblers. Every time I plonk them into the dish washer I feel guilty but they seem to be doing OK there.

this is Baxter. Things that look like it may be from Riedel or Oberglas, or from Raven - I guess there are others as well for textured tumblers.

Ahmreck's wfs pattern tumbler is Baxter's "Everest", not Glacier.
It's exactly the same as the jug I gave to the mould fund and it was id'd on wfs at the time.  "vidfletch" bought it.

Ivo, thank you! Mine are a little different on the bottom, more "finished" than the one you show so I will look through Reidel etc to try and pin them down.

Here is the bottom photo of mine:
