Bootfair Find pair satin glass vases ID help please
by VeryGreennkeen on Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:11 pm

.Hi Folks,
i found this pair of Satin glass vases at the local bootfair this sunday.
No idea of where or when made.
I was drawn to there landscape effect colours to start with then when i picked them up felt the satin finish and thought them lovely.

Cut top rims and flat base so i guess mould blown.
Clear inner with colour layer at center and cased in clear again, any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to look.

The mark on the base looks to be written in pencil as   2/11
Pre-decimal price perhaps ???

Hi
Sorry I can't help with an id as I don't recognise the decor on the vases, but they are very pretty.  My first instinct is Bohemian, or 1930's Czechoslovakian actually, as the shape of the neck/collar reminds me of some I have.  I am however unsure about the unpolished rim as they wouldn't have had a grill or collar with that neck shape - are they unpolished rims or satinised along with the vase?
Hopefully someone will be along who may be able to help.
Perhaps the nice mods could add 'possible Bohemian?' to the title to draw attention, if they have time  :)

Hi, thanks Ff for the response and sorry for delay in getting back as ive just returned from hols.

On closer inspection i realise that the top rim and the inside of the vases are satinised.
Before looking closely i would have thought them not to be on the inside but discover that they are satinised bith inside and out.

Odly enough i picked up a very similar cylinder vase with almost the same decoration, but has a signature or number etched on the base.
will try to upload images later.

 Many thanks for looking.

your last base shot also appears to have a number on maybe 9/11 or other way up 11/0?

     Hi!

I like your vases but don't know anything about them, sorry.

However, a farthing was a quarter of a penny and although I'm old (62), it's not THAT old but I remember farthings and spending them on sweets. I don't think anything would have been priced at 2/11d (the d is one old penny) in pre-decimal days but you never know!

Yes, 2/11d sounds a perfectly reasonable price to me and prices were often marked in pencil on bases.

Here is the cylinder vase a picked up not long after the 1st 2.

Not sure if they are by same maker as it has a space left clear and an etched or engraved code... P39M maybe ?
