Stevens & Williams Jade Glass Water Pitcher?
« on: May 11, 2018, 07:38:53 AM »
I was wondering if anybody can help me with an attribution i have looked at many pictures from Stevens & Williams and Carder Steuben but have not seen anything exact, The piece measures 8" tall and 10" with lid on. The polished pontil scar is fairly small and neat item weighs a good amount at  1.2kg
The glass is quite translucent. Any information or views very happy to receive as i am thinking English in origin but nothing firm as yet.

Does the glass contain uranium, can you test it?

John

Hi John,
I did not think of trying my black light out it does glow nicely under it so yes uranium glass content quite a strong reaction too.
Thanks

Doubt it is Stevens & Williams then, if there are bubbles etc within the glass maybe Josephine.

As far as I could tell, as in many things glass hard to be definitive. Both had bubbles and pale looking spots (for want of a better description) throughout. The glass matched some covered pots that Mike Moir had listed as Josephinenhutte some years ago, quite distinctive with green bodies and lids with opaque white handles. I had some pots exactly the same which glowed under UV and more recently the following have also come my way, again as far as I could tell Josephine.

Pretty sure this one is Stevens & Williams, no glow with UV and far fewer bubbles. The glass was also a good match for some definite S&W vases and powder pots I had at the same time.
