6 nice glass bowls
« on: September 12, 2019, 01:27:36 PM »
Hey,

I recently bought these 6 nice glass bowls.
It looks like a dish for a bonbon with coffee or intended for a used tea bag.
Glass is not uranium.
Probably crystal.
Center gracefully edited.

Hope someone can tell me something more about this.
Age, maker, and possible value

Hello Wesley.  Can we have a picture of a base please, and some measurements.  Could they be salts?

I'm not very good at English.
I think you are asking for the dimensions.
0.7 cm high
5.7 cm diameter

I suspect they may be dishes for butter curls. And Bohemian - sorry that is such a vague suggestion for origins.
(image of butter curls in a little dish, for ease of translation. - my Dutch is non-existant, I am afraid. :-[ )

Definitely too big for salts lol.  Will have to rethink all the "pin dishes" I thought I had......never even considered butter curls or cocktail ashtrays until now!

these appear to have a similarity to the Heinrich Hoffman intaglio glass pin trays, or open salts, fairly common in the art deco fashion of 1920s.
I seem to recall there were images on Pamela's site, but must be looking in the wrong place as now can't see them.
Those trays also came in several colours from memory, and were about the same size as the op's examples  -  there were a number of different subjects used for the intaglio image  -  I had one once, but it went out a long time back.

Sorry to disappoint Wesley, but unlikely folk here will provide you with a value  -  but you might find some indication on internet auctions sites.
Not sure what is meant by 'crystal' in this instance  -  probably not lead glass, and only one is clear - but just to see if I'm wrong, please flick one and see if there is a lead glass 'ring' :)

Thanks for the answers.
Given the image I also think of the art deco period.
The edge is beautifully cut.

In the Netherlands we use this type of sized glasses to place the tea bag after use in the water.
However, tea bags were not used during the Art Deco period.

This does indeed seem too great for herbs.
To my knowledge, herbs used to be very expensive.

On ebay they still talk about a dish for salt.
