I never mentioned WF and I never will. Just mentioning the attribution by RSW to Baxter for Dartington in a 1975 book brings out the aggro - so thanks a lot, you go and fight it out among yourselves.  :wsh:

The Dartington books make no mention of Baxter designing for them in that period, though Tony Kessler, Anita Harris and Rachael Woodman are mentioned for later Thrower years.

How could anybody cast aspersions on RSW as an authority?
(I don't have that RSW book, I want it, it's beautiful and it's got images of Michael Harris' work in it!)
I for one, am grateful for this interesting little snippet of info. Thanks, Ivo - can I join you?   :wsh:

I'm trying to get a handle on this thread. Two questions:

Is RSW wrong in his attribution to Baxter?

Is there any agreement of who designed the glass that started this thread?

Help!

I think RSW might just be wrong, so yes I am casting nasturtiums. The Dartington books say the use of other designers at Dartington was considered during the early period but nothing ever came of it for various reasons but not FT spitting his dummy out.

Ivo  dont get me wrong i am like you not a great fan of Whitefriars only the early Powell , and too many strange people on that other forum , when you tell them the truth they delete if it doesnt suit them as i said before one member voted several no,s on an isit item then bought it and bragged about it on the same forum but got caught out . some of the nicer members are spending more time on GMB now . ;D  :ooh: PS Steve i am not saying you are strange tho it could be catching and there is no treatment for it . :chky:

 ;D
(stamps little foot in tantrum, pouts petulantly)
I wanted to cast the nasturtiums, Christine!  :-*
(then thought, hmm international forum, perhaps best not to confuse folk any more than this thread has already become confused.)
David has summed it up nicely

Is the concensus that the original tumblers being discussed are most likely to be Hoya?
And was RSW right or wrong about Baxter designing for Dartington at some point? (pre '75)

(ahmreck's are definitely everest, not glacier, but are a red herring, 'cos we're not discussing "wfy" stuff here, it's not relevant)

Not sure why the seemingly OTT reaction? the wording appeared to suggest the photo was the 'Baxter' whiskey tumbler you had referred  to, my mistake, looked back through the post and cannot find anyone being remotely 'aggressive' ? or anyone 'fighting' Thought Baxter worked exclusively for W/f for 26 years  from 1954 so the Dartington connection is quite a surprise, though 'freelancing' is not unknown.

I felt exactly the same as you Chris !

and as for Baxter working for Dartington; first I've ever heard of it..and Dartington certainly don't seem to know about it
