Show and Tell.....another beautiful M. Janku piece....signed.
« on: December 08, 2011, 12:02:47 PM »
This had been a very good year for me in many ways,  but today I want to show you my latest piece of glass which I received yesterday.

It is an M. Janku signed bird....I think it is an egret but happy to be corrected.
It is neodymium glass at the head,  cascading down to rosy pink at the foot.
In perfect condition, but with age related wear to the base and best of all,  it has the M. Janku signature.
Any help with dating would always be appreciated.
Rosie.  :)
Rosie.

Rosie, what a beautiful bird! (And I would think egret as well)

Here is a link to Czech Glass Revue from 1970 on Jindrich's site, where similar egrets are shown -- but designed by Miloslav Klinger :wsh:

I can't help with the bird (though I think I'd call it an egret if I knew what an egret was), but I do think it's a wonderful piece!  Rosie, you forgot to mention how big it is...  ;)

I'd say c.1960.

I'd have said shag or cormorant........but those don't sound romantic or artistic...........but not a grebe.         How can anyone not know what an egret is ;)

That's because I'm a city girl.  If it ain't a pigeon, then it's a 'bird'.

Rosie, almost 29cm tall is huge... what a presence it must have!  You're a lucky lady.

It is now confirmed as a Cormorant,  thanks to my lovely friend Anik,  :) (who sent me this link to one that Della has)

(and a good guess from Paul S. ;) )

So we can forget egrets, grebes, shags  :o  and pigeons,  :usd:  and concentrate on the sheer size and beauty of a lovely piece of glass.  :sun:

And, last night I won a signed hedgehog, so if any of you lot were bidding against me.........na nana na na!! :wsh:
